Dave took me down to the Mesa Gateway Airport, which was the Williams Air Force Base when I learned to fly the T-37 and T-38 trainers during 1964-65. This is the T-38, still after all these years one of the most beautiful and exciting machines ever to fly. But it is a little sad to see a once dynamic airplane permanently mounted on display. Like a mummy in a museum, you know it will never live again and is only a shell of its former self. But I suppose our past is like that, only a memory never to be lived again. But this memory is to me one of the most exciting if not happiest times in my life.
